WordPress where to start
This article assumes you already have a domain registered, a hosting provider and wordpress installed with your hosting provider. Going to use a theme call Responsive. It’s installed by default with wordpress.
WordPress where to start is going to show how to start setting up your wordpress site. To start, first log into your domains wordpress site. That is done by opening your web browser and typing in your www.your-domain-name.com/wp-admin the /wp-admin if you have wordpress installed will take you to a log in screen asking for you User Name and Password that you install setup should have given you when you finished with your install.
Once your logged into your wordpress domain account should look something like this:
First thing with wordpress where to start is go to your Settings in the left plane and select General.
Your screen should like something like this:
Now change your info in the General section to your information.
Site Title
Tagline
WordPress Address (URL)
Site Address (URL)
E-mail Address
Rest is easy to figure out
If you want Google tracking you, need to put in your Google Analytics UA Tracking ID
Save and then in the left plane select Permalinks and change to Post Name then save your changes.
Now it’s time to add some useful plugins that help you when greating web pages.
In the left plane select Plugins and search and add the following plugins to help with editing. Some are already installed but may need to turned off. On the plugins page at the top click on the Add New to search for the plugins you want to install.

I removed Jetpack by WordPress and MOJO Marketplace and the LBC Local SEO
Now lets go pick the theme where going to use. In the left plan select Appearance then Theme. Hover over the Responsive theme and select Activate if not already active. If you don’t want to use the Responsive theme you can use one of the others or you can import a theme. One great free theme that I use on other sites and free is found here at Tyler.com. Tyler has some very nice helpful scripts and tips on his site. You should take the time and watch the 20 minutes video tutorial.
Before you start creating your home page you need to do your due diligence in researching your keywords and your page title. You need to log into your Google keyword planer account that you should have setup already with your domain name. Link is here.

Now you need to decide if you want to use the default 2 column home page from Responsive or if you want a Static home page with is on column and full page.
If you want to use a Static home page then in the left plane select Pages and at the top of page select Add New.
- Enter your URL page title.
- Copy your page title and past into your page and change to Header 2 and make it bold.
- Copy your page title into Yoast SEO box’s
- Copy your page title into the Slug box
- If you don’t want any comments on this page un-check the Allow Comments box.
- In the right plane check to box that says Hide the title for this item
- In the right plane under Page Attributes for Parent select (no parent)
- In the right plane under Page Attributes for Template select Full Width Page (no sidebar)
Now save your Draft copy in the upper right plane.
Now it’s time to start adding text on your home page and don’t forget to try and use your URL page title in your text as many times as you can. Make sure your text is relevant to your URL page title.
