Update Cinnamon 2.2 to 2.4.1 in Mint 17

See how to Update Cinnamon 2.2 to 2.4.1 in Mint 17 LTS distro. Like always you should backup your system in the event that things go wrong.

Note: You need to be running Mint 17 Cinnamon edition already. If your not, this procedure will not work for you.

Open a Terminal window and then type in the following 2 commands one at a time.

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:gwendal-lebihan-dev/cinnamon-nightly
sudo apt-get update

Then close the Terminal window.

Now: Go to Administrator and click on Update Manager.

Next: Click on Edit then select Software Sources and enter your login password

 

Next Check the box Unstable packages (romeo) then click on Update Cache in the upper right corner.

After the the cache is updated, close the window.

 

Next: Now in the main screen of the Update Manager click on Refresh

Next: Install Updates in the window list.

Next: Should bring up another list of updates to install, if not hit Refresh again then install all the updates.
Once all the updates are installed, just log out then back in again and you should now have the newest Cinnamon version on your box.
You can check what Cinnamon version your running by going to Preferences and click on System Info. If all went well you should see your running version 2.4.1 See how easy to Update Cinnamon 2.2 to 2.4.1 in Mint 17.

For anybody using Ubuntu 14.XX, here’s how to get Cinnamon 2.4.4 installed into your system. 

For Ubuntu 14.10 and Ubuntu 14.04, we have to add the Cinnamon Nightly PPA to our system, update the local repository index and install the cinnamon package. Like this:

Open a Terminal Window, copy and paste one line at a time:

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:gwendal-lebihan-dev/cinnamon-nightly
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install cinnamon

To take affect, Log Out then back in selecting Cinnamon as the desktop from the log in screen, now your running the newest version on Cinnamon. You can check by going to Preference then System Info

To revert the change’s, do:

$ sudo apt-get remove cinnamon
$ sudo apt-get autoremove
$ sudo add-apt-repository -r ppa:gwendal-lebihan-dev/cinnamon-nightly
$ sudo apt-get update

To take affect, Log Out then back in.
